STORY OF SACRIFICE

These were part of the sacrifices by the heroes of the country where they had to risk their bodies and lives to protect the honor of our beloved country Malaysia. Hopefully it can be a muse and the sacrifice of past heroes will not be forgotten. Al-Fatihah to those who have passed away.


lt jen dato seri zainiLT GEN DATO 'SERI ZAINI HJ MOHD SAID comes from Lenggeng Ulu, Negeri Sembilan. During the weapon heist in Battalion 304 Army, he played a crucial role in planning for the Al-Maunah to surrender via persuasion by using the appeals of their wives, children and family members of the militant group. On July 6, 2000, he offered to negotiate with the group leader. In that critical situation, he exhibited courage and potential when he managed to thwart the weapon pointed at him by the Al-Maunah leader and threw him to the ground before the invasion on the rest of the militant. His resolute reaction to end the event was successful when all members of the Al-Maunah surrendered. He was awarded the SP medal on June 2, 2001.


kapt hamid awangCAPT HAMID AWANG was from Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu. As a result of intelligence gathering that stated as many as 40 to 50 communist terrorists would gather at Mount Pueh, Kompeni D 2 RAMD that was headed by him was assigned to the area. On the evening of April 7, 1973, they successfully tracked the enemy camp, and he then pursued to launch an attack on that camp. Capt Hamid launched an assault with an M-79 shotgun heading towards the enemy position.
In that battle, a terrorist tried to shoot one of the soldiers. Capt Hamid acted with courage and disregarding his safety pounced on the enemy and struck his neck with an M-79 gun. Capt Hamid and his group managed to kill three communist terrorists, seized three adjustable automatic weapons, ammunition and other equipment while one of his men died. He was awarded the SP medal on June 6, 1973.


mej zainal abdul rashidMAJ ZAINAL ABDUL RASHID (DECEASED) was from Pantai Remis, Perak. On July 15, 1976, he and his five soldiers detected a group of 15 communist terrorists after trailing their movement. After killing two communist terrorists with two rapid firing, Capt Zainal boldly rushed towards the enemy while encouraging his men to fight on. At that time an injured female terrorist threw a grenade that wounded Capt Zainal. His exceptional courage and leadership boosted the morale of his soldiers to attack and destroy the enemy. They managed to kill six of the 15 terrorists and seized a 60 mm mortar line, seven top rifles, bullets, bombs and other equipment. Capt Zainal died in that battle. He was awarded the SP medal on June 1, 1977.


kapt mohana chandranCAPT MOHANA CHANDRAN AL VELAYUTHAN was from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. A special reconnaissance group consisted of 23 people led by Capt Mohana Chandran was assigned to Ulu Kinta Forest Reserve to track down the communist terrorists. On June 13, 1971, when ascending a hill, they managed to trace three terrorists near a sizeable terrorist camp in the forest. Capt Chandran with Ranger Abang Bolhi bin Abang Doladi began firing. Counterattacks by the enemy had wounded Ranger Bolhi. Ranger Bajau ak Ladi also supported the battle. Upon the arrival of   Ranger Bajau who came to help, Capt Chandran boldly moved closer to the enemy position disregarding the risk of approaching the enemy position with more significant strength while Ranger Bajau provided covering fire. Enemies above the hill returned fire and hit Capt Chandran on the head. He died on the battlefield. He was awarded the SP medal on June 7, 1972.


ltm abd hamid ismailSECOND LIEUTENANT ABD HAMID ISMAIL was from Bay Village, Jitra Kedah. On September 8, 1973, a patrol group of nine led by 2 Lt  Abd Hamid managed to track a group of terrorists who were resting. After taking a position, 2 Lt Abd Hamid began the battle by firing the first shot and wounded one terrorist. The injured enemies quickly retreated from the battle area. In his effort to organise his soldiers to attack the enemies positions, 2 Lt Abd Hamid, who was in standing position was shot in the stomach by a terrorist. He died in battle. One terrorist was killed, a Tommy gun Madson 645 with bullets and five backpacks were seized at the scene. He was awarded the SP medal on June 4, 1975.


ltm abd razak husainSECOND LIEUTENANT ABD RAZAK HUSAIN was from Kampung Tawang, Bachok, Kelantan. On November 1, 1970, acting upon information on the repercussion of the communist terrorist movement, the leader of Tiger Platoon 8 RAMD, 2 Lt Abdul Razak was instructed to do patrols to find and destroy the enemy. 2 Lt Razak led the patrol group, and when approaching a small hill, they were shot by the enemy. Upon realising that they were surrounded, 2 Lt Razak opened fire using SLR into the enemies LMG guns position. Rapid firing from the enemies engulfed the position of 2 Lt Razak group. He had no other options in reducing pressure by the enemy troops, and with extraordinary courage, he stood up and began shooting at the enemies to protect his men who were unprotected. His effort resulted in 2 Lt Abdul Razak getting shot by a terrorist, and he was killed on the battlefield. He was awarded the SP medal on Nov 2, 1971.


pw kanang ak langkauWO I (Rtd) KANANG AK LANGKAU is from Kanowit, Sarawak. On February 19, 1980, Platun Risik Gempur (UCIS) 8 Rangers, led by Capt Johnson ak Meling assisted by Sgt Kanang was assigned to the black soil area to track a bunch of communist terrorists who shot dead a member of the 25 RAMD few days earlier. Sgt Kanang who led a team succeeded in tracking a terrorist group being sought.  He immediately fired and attacked the enemies positions. The enemies managed to escape, and the tracking was continued by Sgt Kanang who was acting as forwarding observer on the morning of February 19, 1980. While moving, Sgt Kanang detected a booby-trap installed by the enemies. In the event all of a sudden they were bombarded with enemies’ fire. Sgt Kanang exhibited exceptional courage, and without regard to the injuries, he continued firing at the enemy while giving words of encouragement to his comrades to keep fighting. He suffered severe injuries that nearly claimed his life. He was awarded the SP medal on June 3, 1981.


pw2 lenggu ak cinaWO II LENGGU AK CINA is from Sungai Baloh, Ngemah, Kanowit, Sarawak. On January 20, 1971, while conducting operations in the Katibas River, WO II Lenggu with his group led by 2 Lt Anuar Basha Khan Akaria was ambushed in Tanjung Batu Babi. The enemies firing did not prevent WO II Lenggu from closing in on the river bank and stormed the enemies positions. WO II Lenggu Group killed four communist terrorists thus forcing them to abandon their position. His team suffered seven deaths, while two members, including 2 Lt Anuar Basha, was injured. 30 guns and 303 bullets and a document were among the items confiscated at the scene. He was awarded the SP medal on June 2, 1971.


kpl mat azman awangCPL MAT AZNAN AWANG was from Kampung Parit Panjang, Baling, Kedah. On October 4, 1993, the late Cpl Mat Aznan was involved in the rescue mission of 70 U.S. Rangers and five members of the United States Air Force who were besieged in the Bakara Market by Farah Aideed militia. An armoured vehicle driven by Cpl Mat Aznan was shot by an anti-tank weapon from the front penetrating the bullet-proof glass and hit his left shoulder while injuring nine other members.
In that incident, four vehicles of Railway Transport Shield (KPPA) Condor type too were destroyed. The rescue mission of the U.S. military was performed with distinction by members of MALBAT. Cpl Aznan died and was awarded the SP medal on June 4, 1994.


lkpl saimon tarikatLCPL SAIMON TARIKAT was from Kampung Parit Rambai Ulu, Pontian, Johor. On Jan 25, 1983, based on information about the activities of the communists, members of PKPT as many as 12 people were deployed on a special mission to Kampong Titi. This group was split into three small groups. With bad visibility during night, LCpl Saimon and a friend saw two communist terrorists descending a hill. Without delay, they fired several shots. At that time, a woman terrorist shouted so that his friend could escape. In that critical situation, LCpl Saimon boldly crawled up the terraced hill approaching the woman to kill her. His actions drew the attention of a terrorist’s man who instantly opened fire and hit LCpl Saimon. He died in that battle. In this operation, two communist terrorists were killed. Two adjustable arms with ammunition were seized from the terrorists. He was awarded the SP medal on June 1, 1983.


tpr rasli buangTPR RASLI BUANG comes from Kampung Buntal Lumut, Kuching, Sarawak. On July 6, 1971, Troup No. 3, Squadron X which comprised of Tpr Rasli was assigned to Perlop Forest for a special mission to destroy the enemy. While patrolling, they were shot by a group of communist terrorists. After two members were shot, Tpr Rasli countered shot the enemy fire while boldly approaching his wounded comrades. While counter shot the enemy, a bullet hit Tpr Rasli on the neck and killed him. In that battle, the rates of mortality and injured enemies were unavailable where else Troup No. 3 had two dead and one wounded. He was awarded the SP medal on July 7, 1972.


jen tansri mohd ghazaliGEN (RTD) TAN SRI MOHD GHAZALI BIN CHE MAT is from Lenggong, Perak. On November 13, 1957, Platoon 1 of Company A, 2 RAMD under the command of 2 Lt Ghazali encountered with a group known as the 37/39 Platoon of Regiment Liberation from MCP-5. While ascending a hill to encroach the enemy positions, they were repeatedly shot from above the mountain. Aware of the situation that his men were unable to counter the attack, 2 Lt Ghazali and a soldier named Private Hassan Selati stormed the enemy firing. His determination and courage caught the enemy by surprise and forced them to retreat. In that battle, the two communist terrorists were killed. He was awarded the PGB medal on 31 August 1958.


mej jen abdul rahman khamisMAJ GEN (RTD) ABDUL RAHMAN KHAMIS is from Alor Gajah, Melaka. On July 8, 1957, based on information by a communist terrorist who surrendered, Lt Abd Rahman who led the Platoon 11 of Company C, 6 RAMD was ordered to track the enemy camp. The tracking resulted in them managed to detect the enemy position in a valley. His platoon divides into three smaller groups to ambush the camp. Once deployed, they waited along the pathway used by the terrorists to return to the camp. At 1445H, a male and female terrorist were entering the camp. Lt Abdul Rahman trailed them from a distance of 25 yards, then shot and killed the terrorist and wounded the female. He was awarded the PGB medal on 31 August 1958.


mej jen dato abdul kadirMAJ GEN (RTD) DATO' ABDUL KADIR NORDIN comes from Kelantan. In 1965, the OAK TREE OP held in Kota Tinggi, 2 Lt Abdul Kadir was ordered to capture enemies gathering in a cottage. During the night, he and his platoon moved towards the enemy location to surround the cottage with the two obstruction groups and one offensive group. The attack supposed, to begin with, a gunshot, but the bullet did not explode. Assuming both obstruction groups are in a position, 2 Lt Kadir rushed to the cottage and ordered the enemy to come out and surrender. His bold actions caught the enemies by surprise the enemy, and nine people surrendered. When led the enemy out of the house only then 2 Lt Kadir realised that just he and one of his soldier had raided the cottage, while the rest were unprepared. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 8, 1966.


brig jen abdullah babuMAJ GEN DATO 'ABDULLAH BABU is from Yong Peng, Johor. On March 24, 1979, after discovering the enemy hideout, Capt Abdullah, who led 18 other soldiers took a position to launch an attack. The first shot was by Sgt Mohd Zain who came across an enemy when he was moving in to attack. Simultaneously, Capt Abdullah and his squad unleashed rapid firing and successfully killed one enemy. Surprised by the attack, the enemy tried to escape, but Capt Abdullah and his men continued tracking and managed to shoot a female terrorist. After searching, the group led by Capt Abdullah managed to kill three terrorists, confiscated SLR weapons, ammunition, communist pamphlets, food and eight public identification cards. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 7, 1981.


kol ismail sallehCOL (B) ISMAIL SALLEH is from Alor Setar, Kedah. On August 23, 1970, Company C 6 Rangers led by Maj Ismail was deployed to impede the infiltration of communist terrorists. The enemy initially retreated then counter-attack with about 70 people. With the support of artillery firing, Major Ismail led his company to attack the enemy who was surrounded. He displayed courage and great perseverance throughout the battle which lasted for seven hours. The battle resulted in four terrorists getting killed. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 2, 1971.


kol maurice lam shyeCOL (RTD) MAURICE LAM SHYE CHOON is from Penang. On November 12, 1961, during the Congo rebellion, about 40 people tried to besiege and attack the Officers’ Mess to capture some of the Italian Air Force officers; he showed great courage by manoeuvring two tanks to recapture the Mess. His courageous and determined action had succeeded in rescuing members, equipment and Special Forces weaponry Malaya (Malaya Special Forces (MSF) from falling into the hands of the Congo rebels when they invaded and sieged the Officers’ Mess including the Kindu Airport. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 5, 1963.


lt kol ismail ghowsLT COL (RTD) ISMAIL GHOWS is from Kampung Boyan, Taiping Perak. On October 5, 1966, based on information about a group of North Kalimantan National Army (TNKU) that will be having a rendezvous, Company Headquarters 7  RAMD led by Major Ismail moved to the suspected area in Kampung Jawa. In the evening, when the company was on the river bank, he found civilian clothes and saw movement in the water. With the spirit of courage and heroism, Major Ismail jumped into the river and pounced on the enemy forces at that time. He managed to apprehend the six members TNKU after struggling with them in the river. After his soldiers came to help, Major Ismail once again came across two more TNKU members and captured them. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 7, 1967.


ltkol ahmad abd rashidLT COL (RTD) ABDULLAH DOLMAT is from Jasin, Melaka. On October 21, 1974, as a result of information obtained from the activities of communist terrorists who tried to influence the villagers in Sungai Moyan, 2 Lt Abdullah and ten soldiers together with four elected members of the Special Branch carry out missions to attack and destroy the enemy in the area. After finding the enemy camp, 2 Lt  Abdullah positioned his men. At 0600H, they began to crawl approaching the enemy camp.
After being shot by the enemy who was aware of their presence, 2 Lt Abdullah led his men bravely move and stormed into the camp.  At the same time, the obstruction groups too began firing. They killed five terrorists and seized five barrel gun, a pistol, ammunition and other equipment. A soldier suffered minor injuries in the chest after getting shot. He was awarded the PGB medal on Nov 26, 1974.


lt kol abdullah dolmatCOL LT AHMAD ABD RASHID is from Batu 18, Kampung Tok Ya, Jitra, Kedah. On the night of November 30, 1974, Capt Ahmad with 11 PKPT members ambushed the enemy of Combat Unit-6 while taking their meals. In the first ambush, he succeeded in killing a female terrorist. Next, he took courageously launched the second ambush and managed to kill one another communist terrorists. Terrorist equipment seized at the scene was a Browning 9 mm pistol with ammunition and drugs. He was awarded the PGB medal of on June 4, 1975.


lt kol robert rizalLT COL (RTD) ROBERT RIZAL ABDULLAH is from Kampung Lachau Dua, Simanggang, Sarawak. On 10 and October 11, 1973, while on a tracking mission on the night on Oct 10, 1973, Platoon 12, managed to kill two communist terrorists. Following that, the company led by Capt Rizal joined Platoon 12 and began tracking to find and destroy the enemy. At about 0100H, they found a temporary enemy camp estimated about 30 to 40 people. After taking the position at time 0615H, Capt Rizal began the attack with a shot from his gun. The surprise attack caused the enemy to panic and tried to escape. Capt Rizal and his men continued to hustle, and they killed seven terrorists and seized eight barrel guns, a pistol, ammunition and equipment of terrorists. His company experience death and one injury. He was awarded the PGB medal on Dec 27, 1973.


lt kol kassmim abd kadirLT COL (RTD) KASSIM ABDUL KADIR is from Labuan, Sabah. On May 14, 1971, while patrolling in Bukit Besar, 2 Lt Kassim heard a gunshot and screaming from the members of the Army Special Forces Intelligence (PKPT). He and his platoon rushed to the scene and found PKPT attacked by a group of enemies. Without wasting time, he led the platoon to attack. 2 Lt Kassim and RJR Mereng with bravely went down the hill while firing a shot and toppled one by one on the enemy. As a result, they succeeded in killing five people and seized some enemy weapons and their equipment. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 7, 1972.


lt kol abd jalil makmorLT COL (RTD) ABD JALIL MAKMOR is from Kampung Kuala Sawah, Rantau, Negeri Sembilan. On December 10, 1974, 2 Lt Abd Jalil and Platoon 7, Company C, 1 RAMD was ordered to sweep in the area of Kompeni C responsibility at Bukit Lintang, Karak. While performing the task, the communist terrorists shotted one of the soldiers from behind. 2 Lt Abd Jalil courageously tracked the enemy. At one time, Platoon 7 was attacked again by terrorists. 2 Lt Abd Jalil then saw the enemy located 10 feet from his shelter. Disregarding his safety, he shot and killed the enemy using an MGK. A modified pistol with ammunition, explosives, food and equipment were seized from the dead terrorists. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 7, 1975.


lt kol basri omarLT COL BASRI OMAR is from Merbok, Bedong, Kedah. On April 25, 1976, Capt Basri and his team were ordered to make a clearing in a tunnel located in the enemy camp that was captured. The risk taken was too high as the pit was filled with active booby-traps. While clearing, a mine exploded. He sustained injuries, and one of his men was severely wounded and died later. While awaiting the arrival of the helicopter, he gave words of encouragement and motivated his men clearing the tunnel to proceed with their work. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 2, 1976.


mej baharin abd jalilMAJ (RTD) BAHARIN ABD JALIL is from Kuala Krai, Kelantan. On March 17, 1971, 2 Lt Baharin and RJR Lan ak Gima while tracking managed to detect a group of communist terrorists with more than 14 people. 2 Lt Baharin courageously started shooting in solitary until the magazine runs out of rounds, and then RJR Lan ak Gima continued firing at the enemy. After that, disregarding the rapid enemy firing, they both quickly and immediately attack the enemy position while firing. In the battle, they killed 13 terrorists and confiscated seven-barrelled guns, seven shoot a firearm, ammunition and a backpack containing equipment 14 individual terrorists. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 2, 1971.


mej neville herbertMEJ (RETIRED) NEVILLE HERBERT SIEBEL is from Kuala Lumpur. On November 12, 1961, a group of 40 to 50 armed Congo rebels besieged the Officers' Mess in Kindu. The insurgents struck and stomped several members of the Italian Air Force. Realizing the situation 2 Lt Siebel, together 2 Lt Low Tung Yeow and Capt Maurice Lam began shooting at the rebels. 2 Lt Siebel acting as the head of the group was hit in the struggle. He managed to capture a rebel. They then continued to deal with the rebels despite the order to surrender weapons and an armoured car. By disobeying their orders was the right action under the circumstances as they had to fight to maintain the equipment and weapons of Malaya Special Forces members that were entrusted to him from falling into the hands of the rebel army, who also surrendered and surrounded the Kindu airport. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 5, 1963.comes from Kuala Lumpur. On 12 November 1961, a group of 40 to 50 fully armed Congolese rebels soldiers sieged Officers' Mess in Kindu. At that moment, the rebels beat and trample members of the Italian Air Force. 2nd Lt Siebel with 2nd Lt Low Tung Yeow and Capt Maurice Lam took bold action by shooting towards the rebels. Lt M Siebel as the vehicle chief was also beaten in the struggle. He managed to capture a rebel. Then, they faced with the rebel group even got orders to surrender their weapons and armored vehicles. The action to ignore order in that situation was right because they defense the Malaya Special Forces’ equipment and men from falling into the hands of the Congolese rebel army. After that, the rebels surrendered. He was awarded the PGB medal on 5 June 1963.


mej lee ah powMEJ (RETIRED) LEE AH POW on September 12, 1962, No. 2 C Squadron troops led by Lt Lee was ordered to patrol the north of Elisabethville airport. At 1100H, when returning to the base, they passed through a lane at the intersection of Martini. After 30 km of the road, a group of 30 to 40 people surrounded the Katanga army convoy and they opened fire when ordered to retreat by Lt Lee. To save the convoy from further attack, one shot of browning machine gun short bursts was aimed at the Katanga forces. This action causes the Katanga troops to flee their positions. Once rummaging the area, Lt Lee found two Katanga soldiers were killed, and many weapons and ammunition were left behind. The courageous and quick action by Lt Lee saved a section of the Gurkha soldiers who were besieged by the armies of Katanga. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 3, 1964.


kapt shanmuganathanCAPT SHANMUGANATHA AL E.RAMPOO was from Tanjung Malim, Perak. On Jan 11, 1974, a total of 22 members of Platoon 6, B Company, 5 Ranger led by Capt Shanmuganathan managed to trace the communist terrorist camp on a hill in Sungai Liang, Raub, Pahang. After making plans, he led the platoon attack. Capt Shanmuganathan showing courage and willingness to take risks continued the climb towards the enemy camp, even though the enemies were firing rapidly at his direction. In that effort, a bullet hit Capt Shanmuganathan. Seeing the situation, RJR Mat Isa pulled Capt Shanmuganathan out of the battle and protected him with his body until terrorists killed him. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 4, 1975.


mej kamaruddin mohd jamalMEJ (RETIRED) KAMARUDDIN MOHD JAMAL is from Kuala Lipis, Pahang. On August 21, 1964, based on information about the landing of the Indonesian Military (TNI), which were about 12 to 15 people in Pontian, a group led by 2 Lt Kamaruddin moved to eliminate the intruders. While the approaching enemy, they were shot with automatic weapons. After realising their firing was not effective, 2 Lt Kamaruddin threw a grenade towards the enemy as he gave the words of encouragement to his men. 2 Lt Kamaruddin killed a TNI soldier that tried to shoot him. Overall, they killed four people, seizing weapons ammunition and other equipment. He was awarded the PGB medal on 21 June 1965.


mej mohamad basriMEJ (RETIRED) MOHAMAD BASRI DIN is Kodiang from Kedah. On Oct 6, 1974, 2 Lt Basri Din with his platoon was assigned to assist the Police Forest Platoon (PPH) that was ambushed. Upon reaching the location of PPH Platoon, 2 Lt Basri began tracking the enemies who fled after the ambush occurred. While monitoring the PPH group was ambushed on a hillside. 2 Lt Basri bravely countered fire the enemy with the PPH group. The battle continued until dusk. 2 Lt Basri showed courage and responsibility as a leader in responding to the enemy attacks by emanating words of encouragement to his men to continue fighting. The battle saw 2 Lt Basri managed to kill a terrorist. The next day he shot another terrorist with a grenade. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 4, 1975.


mej samaon ahmadMEJ (RETIRED) SAMAON AHMAD came from Batu Kikir, Bahau, Negeri Sembilan. On 15 June 1972 based on information that a group of terrorists from the North Kalimantan Communist Party (PKKU) will be holding a rendezvous, Lt Samaon together with three former communist terrorists who surrendered and the members of Indonesian Army Commando Regiment, was assigned a mission to eliminate the group. Once they found the camp, Lt Samaon began planning and started spraying shots at the terrorist leader and killed him. The battle continues for some time until all the terrorists were killed. The fight saw three terrorists getting killed and some weapons like the Thompson, Stengun and pistol as well as other documents were successful seized. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 6, 1973.


mej salahuddin abdul mutalibMEJ (RETIRED) SALAHUDDIN MUTTALIB is from Telok Anson, Perak. On July 21, 1972, Lt Salahuddin was ordered to perform a mission to kill the commander of 330 Armed Forces of the North Kalimantan People’s Party (PARAKU), Fam Tze Heung dan his wife. On the night of July 16, 1972, with three former Communist Terrorists (SEP), Lt Salahuddin began his mission. After four days of waiting, finally, Fam Heung Tze appeared together with SEP. In the total blurry darkness, and after confirming his target, Lt M Salahuddin unleashed MGK firing towards the two terrorists. Fam Heung Tze was injured, but his counter firing was off target. Lt Salahuddin determination and courage saw him hitting the enemy with the MGK thus knocking him down. Lt Salahuddin then twisted the neck of Fam Tze and used a knife to kill him. Then he rushed toward Fam Tze’s wife and stabbed her twice in the chest. One AK-47 and Stengun, ammunition and equipment of terrorists were successfully confiscated. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 6, 1973.


mej mohd hpiahMEJ (RETIRED) MOHD H PIAH ALI is from Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu. On October 7, 1977, at 1030H, while on a break on their way to a new base, Lt Mohd H Piah deployed a patrol group. While patrolling, the group saw a campsite located on a hill and with some communists. The head of the patrol group informed the matter to Lt. Mohd H Piah and was directed back to base for further action. After Zohor prayer, he and his platoon proceeded to the position of the enemy campsite. Right at 1700H, he let go a shot as a signal to launch the attack on the enemy. At the same time, the terrorist camp was bombarded with firing from Lt Mohd H Piah’s platoon. The battle saw the platoon killed four communist terrorists. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 7, 1978.


mej roslan abd rahmanMEJ ROSLAN BIN ABD RAHMAN is from the Kg Melayu Majidee, Johor Bahru, Johor. 2 Lt Roslan led Platoon 5, B Company 14 RAMD and was ordered to battle patrol after discovering enemy movement tracks. On Oct 25, 1979, they found a potato field suspected of belonging to the communists. After reconnaissance, 2 Lt Roslan found a campsite that was occupied by four people who were working in the area. 2 Lt Roslan decided to attack. The first burst firing from 2 Lt Roslan and his men killed two communist terrorists. During a search carried out, another female terrorist was killed and another believed to have escaped. Platoon 5 also seized two Carbine guns, eight magazines and 242 rounds, point 22 gun, magazines and 112 rounds, a grenade and other equipment. He was awarded the PGB medal on Dec 19, 1980.


mej km michael rimanMEJ KM (RETIRED) MICHAEL RIMAN AK BUGAT is from Saribas, Sarawak. On June 1, 1979, Combat Intelligence Platoon (UCIS), which consists of Cpl Michael and headed by SGT Kanang Ak Langkau succeeded in tracking the enemy trail which led to their resting place. In that battle, he courageously attacks and barges into the enemy. The bravery displayed by him and his group resulted in five communists getting killed. The battle also claimed the life of a soldier, and he sustained severe arm injuries. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 6, 1984.


lt kol halim khalidLT COL KHALID HALIM is from Kampung Simpang Pulai, Ipoh, Perak. On September 27, 1993, Platoon 4 B Company 19 RAMB (Mek), led by Capt Halim Khalid as Head Assistant of B Company was assigned to provide security at the court at Old Port, Mogadishu, Somalia. While performing this task, Platoon 4 was attacked by militia armed with RPGs, automatic weapons, grenades and rifles. Capt Halim showed the tremendous spirit of valour to order his men to return fire and engaged battle with the militias. The fighting spirit showed forces the militia to reduce their attacks, and Platoon 4 managed to save three Somalian judges from the militias. He was awarded PGB medal on October 2, 1994.


mej abd aziz abd latifMEJ ABD AZIZ ABD LATIF is from Kampung Pak Badol, Bachok, Kelantan. On October 4, 1993, Maj Abd Aziz was involved in the rescue mission of 70 U.S. Rangers and five members of the United States Air Force who were besieged in the Bakara Market by Farah Aideed militia. As Chief Company, Maj Aziz bravely alighted from the vehicle to rescue injured personnel while encouraging them to continue battling the enemy.
This rescue mission was carried out excellently by MALBAT members even though one soldier died and nine others were injured with four tanks damaged after being shot by anti-tank weapons. He was awarded the PGB medal on October 2, 1994.


kapt suhaidi hj saadCAPT SUHAIDI HJ SAAD from Bukit Mertajam, Penang. On August 27, 1993, about 0500H, he led Platoon 2 A Company 21 with only six men and was attacked by a group of pirates in the Sulu Sea. 2 Lt Suhaidi stirred his men to fight even with a small strength. He courageous displays in returning fire by disregarding the risk and personal security while ordering his men to combat the pirates. His platoon killed two pirates and wounded three others. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 1, 1997.


kapt panir chellvum al velaithamCAPT (RETIRED) PANIR CHELLVUM AL VELAITHAN is from Kulim, Kedah. On February 14, 1977, Lt M Panir along with four men was involved in a mission to ambush the communist who was believed to be taking food from their supporters. In the battle, the group managed to kill one terrorist. During the search conducted the next morning, they found a wounded terrorist. 2 Lt Panir ordered his men not to kill the terrorists instead captured him to obtain information on their activities within the area. The battle saw two guns with ammunition, six hand grenades and a backpack containing food and equipment were seized. He was awarded the PGB medal on June 7, 1978.


kapt david fu chee mingCAPT (RETIRED) DAVID FU CHEE MING is from Sibu, Sarawak. On August 27, 1970, Platoon 8 C Company of 6 Rangers led by 2 Lt David was part of a group that was ordered to ambush on a group of enemies heading towards somewhere anticipated. After the enemy entered the killing field, 2 Lt David ignited the claymore mines followed by a GPMG firing. Platoon 8 led by 2 Lt David killed four terrorists and seized three automatic weapons with large amounts of ammunition and six backpack containing tools and equipment terrorism. He was awarded the PGB  medal on June 2, 1971.


kapt khairul anuar abd azizCAPT KHAIRUL ANUAR ABD AZIZ is from Batu 3, Kampung Besut, Jalan Temerloh, Pahang. On October 4, 1993, 2 Lt Khairul Anuar was involved in the rescue mission of 70 U.S. Rangers and a five-man crew of U.S. Air Forces in the Bakara Market area surrounded by Farah Aideed militia. After the tribal militia was using anti-tank weapons, 2 Lt Khairul ordered his men to return fire. His courageous act caused the army to retreat from the battlefield. This rescue mission was carried out excellently by MALBAT even though one soldier was killed and nine injured with four armoured carrier tanks (KPPA) damaged after being shot with anti-tank weapons by the Farah Aided militia. He was awarded the PGB medal on Oct 2, 1994.
