Any questions related to the Malaysian Army.

Both of these matters cannot be evaluated or applied to support or enable a person to qualify or pass the early stage if the applicant fails to meet the primary requirements.

Definition. Candidates who fulfil all the requirements and are eligible to proceed to the next level. The candidates will be called on a fixed date, or the Recruitment Officer will contact them.

Status.  Candidates who passed or eligible to continue to the next level and only need to wait for their names to be officially listed. Candidates do not have to reapply for any future recruitment. The official date will be set later by the Recruitment Division.

The recruitment of Officers and Other Ranks are open annually according to current service needs. Individuals who wish to join the Army can apply through:

Officers

  • The academic qualification needed for Graduate Officers is DEGREE where the required fields are according to the current service needs, and it is not available in UPNM.
  • The academic qualification required for UPNM Cadet Officers is SPM.
  • Application with academic qualification of DIPLOMA is not acceptable.
  • There is no leniency if the applicants do not meet the prescribed academic requirements.
  • Candidates who do not meet the academic eligibility requirements are listed as NOT ELIGIBLE / FAIL.

Other Ranks

  • The academic qualification needed for Other Ranks is SPM or DIPLOMA where the required fields are according to the current service needs.
  • Application with academic qualification of PMR is not accepted.
  • There is no leniency if the applicants do not meet the prescribed academic requirements.
  • Candidates who do not meet the academic eligibility requirements are listed as NOT ELIGIBLE / FAIL.

Any questions or concerns involving health can only be identified during the screening session as it requires the decision of the Medical Officer of the Election Session.

Any questions or concerns involving public and disciplinary offences, or police cases can only be documented after feedback is given from the appointed party for this matter.

Candidates should refer to the advertisement that has been released. If this matter is not clarified in the ad, ‘Neatly Dressed’  is Collared Shirt, Slacks with Court Shoes for men and women, it is either Baju Kurung or neatly attired. Candidates are NOT allowed to wear:

  • Jeans
  • Sexy/Revealing outfits.
  • T-Shirt
  • Shirt without a collar.
  • Slippers/sports shoes.

Officers are commissioned as Second Lieutenant and for Others Ranks is Private (either the Diploma or SPM Scheme). The differences between Diploma Scheme and SPM Scheme is the salary structure. However, the starting rank is the same.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Gender:

  • Men and Women.

Age:

  • Not more than 27 years.

Physical:

  • Minimum height: 1.62m (Male) / 1.57m (Female).
  • Minimum weight: 47.5 kg (Male) / 45.0 kg (Female).
  • Minimum chest size (Male only): 76cm.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) 18.0 to 23.0.

Health status:

  • The level of vision is 6/6 without glasses and contact lenses. Candidates must pass a medical examination conducted by the Medical Officer to meet the Degree of Health - Forward Everywhere (FE).

Academic Qualification Requirement:

  • Own a Bachelor (Honours) Degree recognised by the Government in the following fields set by the MAF from time to time.

APPOINTMENT AND RESPONSIBILITY

Appointment.

  • Nominated candidates will be appointed as Officer Cadets to undergo military studies.

Accreditation.

  • Selected Cadet Officer will be awarded the Short Service Commission approved by SPB Yang Di Pertuan Agong in the rank of Second Lieutenant or equivalent after completed the military studies and training.

Salary.

  • Based on the existing payroll scheme.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

No particular form is provided for application purposes. The application can be made by enclosing the following documents:

  • Personalized resume with phone number and e-mail address that can be contacted.
  • A copy of Bachelor (Honours) Degree in the field offered.
  • A copy of Academic Transcript.
  • A copy of SPM / SPMV Certificate.
  • A copy of the applicant’s identity card including mother and father.
  • A copy of School Leaving Certificate.
  • A copy of Applicant's Birth Certificate, Mother and Father.
  • A copy of Sports Certificate and Co-curriculum.
  • Confirmation Letter from PSD (if applicable).

The applicant does not need to fill the application form. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for exams and interviews at the designated Selection Center. Those who do not receive any letter of offer after TWO (2) WEEKS from the closing date of the application are considered unsuccessful.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT

Academic qualifications:

  • Obtained at least Grade B in the Malay Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects as well as at least Grade C+ in English as required by the University.

APPOINTMENT AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Nominated candidates will be appointed as UPNM Cadet Officer to undergo academic studies (Bachelor Degree) and military studies.

Accreditation:

  • Selected UPNM Cadet Officer will be awarded the Short Service Commission approved by SPB Yang Di Pertuan Agong in the rank of Second Lieutenant or equivalent after completed the academic and military studies.

Salary:

  • Based on the existing payroll scheme.

Shortlisted candidates are required to apply for university admission formally through the University Recruitment Unit (UPU) after the actual SPM examination results are announced.

Terms of Eligibility:

  • Malaysian.
  • Age not less than 18 years and not more than 25 years old.

Academic qualifications:

  • Candidates for General Duty are as follows:

    • SPM - CREDIT in the Malay Language (including oral test), Mathematics, and one of the Science subjects and PASS in English.

    • The Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) LEVEL 2 in the relevant field or equivalent recognised by the Government and CREDIT in the Malay Language (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia).

  • Priority is given to candidates for Professional Duty are as follows:

    • Royal Medical Corps - Diploma in Nursing, Medical, Pharmaceutical, Dental, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Rehabilitation (Parenting) / Physiotherapy, Radiography / Radiotherapy, Veterinary Science or equivalent recognised by the Government.

    • Other Corps / Regiment - Diploma in Engineering or equivalent recognised by the Government.

    • Candidates for Professional Duty must obtain CREDIT in the Malay Language, SPM level or equivalent that is accepted by the Government.

Physical:

  • Height - 1.62m for males and females (Without Shoes).
  • Weight - 47.5kg for men and women.
  • Chest Size - Minimum Normal 76cm and On Inhaling 81cm (Male Only).
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18 - 25.

Health:

  • Not handicapped and certified FIT by medical officer including X-ray examinations.
  • No visual impairment and colour blindness.

Marital Status:

  • Single and not married (women only).

Career:

  • Candidates have the opportunity to be promoted after fulfilling the terms of service.

Salary:

  • Existing salary schemes are according to rank and in accordance with the current Public Service New Scheme (SBPA - ATM).

PLEASE NOTE:

Candidates must also be free from any criminal/juvenile or drug cases. For candidates who are still a witness in court trial cases, admission into the MAF will be postponed until the case is completed.

  • Malaysian Identity Card (MyKad) is in excellent condition. For Temporary Identity Card holders (JPN 9) admission into MAF is postponed until MyKad is obtained.

  • School Leaving Certificate and School Progress Record Book.
  • A copy of Father and Mother Identity Card or deceased parent’s Death Certificate.

Terms of Eligibility:

Individuals who wish to serve in the Territorial Army whether as Other Ranks or an officer must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Malaysian.
  • Age 18 to 45 years old.
  • Good overall health.
  • No criminal record.
  • SPM academic qualification (Other Ranks Category).
  • DEGREE academic qualification (Officers Category).
  • Attended the Kursus Bakal Pegawai (Officers Category).
  • A soldier in the rank of Corporal to apply for the Kursus Bakal Pegawai.
  • Attended Armaments or Marching Course to apply for the Kursus Bakal Pegawai.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Defending the nation is the responsibility of every citizen. If you are called upon to take on this responsibility, you only need to enrol in nearby units by bringing the following documents:

  • Copy of Identity Card.
  • Copy of Citizenship Certificate (if any).
  • Copy of Birth Certificate.
  • Copy of Marriage and Children Birth Certificate (if married).
  • Four pieces of passport size picture.
  • Copy of Academic/School Leaving Certificate.

After a candidate is accepted into the Territorial Army, they have to undergo training activities such as follows:

  • Local Training. Exercises are conducted individually outside working hours or weekends between 3 to 10 hours a day. The total training time does not exceed 240 hours per year. Activities include the practice of weapons, battlefield knowledge and regimental training.

  • Continuous Training. Training is ongoing with an emphasis on Collective Exercise. Duration of training minimum three days and maximum 14 days. It is a continuation of local practice and is conducted in groups.

  • Annual Training Camp. It is a group exercise to test the level of efficiency of candidates performed for 15 days. Activities implemented include camp and field phases.
